Spring has Sprung...

We have had a busy couple of weeks around the O'Brien Household so let's play catch up!

We booked our vacation for Gulf Shores - we are staying in an awesome cottage at the Beach Club in Gulf Shores. We booked Cottage 11 and I think it will have everything we need to keep Caydie happy! We are leaving June 5th and I am soo ready. Only one thing could make this trip better....

Caydie is doing good. She has been doing her ABA Therapy for a month now and they just had an opening in their Scoial Skills Class and she will start that next week. So she will have therapy Monday 5-7, Thursday 4-6, and Saturday 3:15-5:15. Once school is out we will add in her summer PT&OT. That makes for a very busy girl! (I'm talking about me - hahaha!) We had a "pre" IEP meeting at school and have decided that Caydie is ready for kindergarten next year. Scary and exciting at the same time. I am so worried about how she will do in a regular classroom but her teachers seem to think she is ready and will be able to handle the transition. We are going to make her a social story with pictures of her classroom and teacher for us to practice with over the summer. Don't get me wrong I have nothing but faith in this little girl and we will make it happen but I hate for her to have to struggle and worse yet to get to the age where the others kids are going to realize she is different but I know it is coming.....but whatever happens I will figure out a way to make it ok cause that is what I do for my sunshine!

Bennett on the other hand has no worries! He made Honor Roll, had perfect attendance and geat conduct so he came home with three ribbons. His teacher picked him for the "trustworthy" award. She said Bennett will always tell the truth even if it means getting himself in trouble. Awwwww he is suchy a good kid. I amazed at how well he is reading! He had his first sleepover with his friend, Tucker. They were really good and had a great time. Hard to believe my baby will be 8 soon. Bennett is so special to me - I waited so long for that kid. I dont think I could ever explain the void he filled in my life. He is my little piece of happiness!

We have started a team for the Autism Walk in Nashville on September 11th. Team Caydie Bug. So we will getting started on our fundraising soon and we are in the process of desgining our shirts now. I think it will be a fun activity for us to get involved in and of course anything we can do to raise money to help figure autism out!

Easter is this weekend and I think it is going to rain but that is ok soon enough it will be 90 degrees so I will enjoy the cooler temps while I can!

Beautiful weekend

We had a great weekend at the O'Brien house!

Caydie and I have a head cold and Bennett's allergies are kicking in but we still had a pretty good weekend!

Caydie had dance Saturday morning and Aunt Shannon was nice enough to take her since I was laying down with my cold! She did great and has her year end recital on May
15th I can't wait to see how she does. Bennett had a birthday party and Caydie had ABA later that afternoon. It is that time of the year and our weekends will get busy, busy! I am always ready when winter comes so we can just stay put in the house for a while but by the time spring gets here I am ready to go all over again.

Chris and the kids played outside yesterday while I cleaned out closets. We are planning on having a yard sale in April and I want to get rid of as much junk as I possibly can.

We have decided to take the kids to the beach this year. I am excited and nervous at the same time. Never know how things will go with Caydie but i will keep my fingers crossed for a great time because we all need it!

Pillow Buddies Rock!

Big Girl

Caydie got a new car set for Aunt Shannon's car. I can't believe she is using a seat belt. She was so excited to finally get to ride like her Bennett does!

She started her ABA therapy last week and seems to be doing well. We also bought therapy swing for the house. I will have to get pictures of it - I'm not sure who likes it more Bennett or Caydie. We are working more on her writing. We have a meeting set up with the school on March 15th but I am pretty sure she is headed to kindergarten in August - scary! Can't believe I will have 2 kids in school.....

Our Weekend

We got to see more snow this weekend - my kind of snow. You know the kind that looks pretty but doesn't cause any problems!

Caydie had dance on Saturday. They are working on their routines for the spring recital and the outfits are too cute. She really enjoys dance and I hope we are able to keep it up with all her therapy. While we were at dance Chris took Bennett to buy a set of golf clubs. I hope this will be something Bennett likes because the boy needs a hobby besides video games and the computer. We rented Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and made taco's Saturday night. It's nice to all hang out together in the same room!

The kids and I were off yesterday for President's Day. Bennett spent the day with Aunt Shannon playing on the computer while Caydie and I played at home.

Caydie starts therapy this week and I am anxious to get it going. Hopefully we will good results and Caydie will enjoy this as well as get what see needs from it!

2010....

OK - so I haven't posted since October....

Let's play catch up!

We had a great Christmas - kids had a blast as usual. Kris the Elf came back and was very mischievous again this year. I think the elf is one of Bennett's favorite parts of Christmas. Caydie still did not really catch on to the elf but she knew that Bennett would want to know want he had done the night before and was quick to wake him up every morning and let him know where to go look!

Bennett is doing great in school although I am afraid he is becoming the class clown. The boy loves to entertain! I may be biased but he is one of the funniest kids I have ever been around. Between his beautiful eyes and his sense of humor I couldn't love the kid more. I knew God sent him to me for a special purpose and he is truly my comedic relief in life. He does watch a little too much TV though - this was noted during Christmas dinner when he asked me if I was now or if I had ever taken Yaz birth control and if I had I may need to call the number on the TV cause it could make me really sick... Life would be very dull without him!

Caydie is doing well also. She had her neuropsych testing on December the 11th and we were given a dx of Autism. Not totally unexpected but damn...I took a few days to feel bad for us, for her and what she will deal with, for Bennett and what he will deal with but I'm over that I need to put on my big girl panties and make this happen. Caydie is going to be doing ABA therapy on Thursday's and Saturday's and we are on the waiting list for a social skills class. I am going to redo her bedroom to make more of a therapy center for her at home and I will be meeting with her teachers soon to begin thinking about her IEP for next year. I have made the calls the get evals in place for her summer therapy, we have an appointment with a new neurologist next month. I feel like I have a handle on what needs to be done and I will make sure it happens. I watched the Temple Grandin movie this weekend and my new motto for Caydie is "Different not Less". She is still my girl, my little Caydie Bug and I will make her world work for her.

So both Bennett and Caydie as well as me and Chris are going to be very busy! Bennett should be starting T-ball soon and Caydie will have tumbling and tap/ballet and her therapy - I am tired already. But in the words of Dory ~ Just keep swimming. Just keep swimming. Just keep swimming, swimming swimming. What do we do? We swim, swim, swim. ...are you my conscience?~ Haha!

I will do a separate post with some pics to show you what the kids have been doing the past few months!
